George Emanuel Firearms Training and Education is proud to announce that we have added “Pistol Beyond the Basics (One) to our course offerings.

Our NRA Basic Pistol students have been asking for the next step in training. As there is essentially little, if anything, available to them on a continuing basis, we have responded with our first offering in “Pistol Beyond the Basics.” This addition is the first part of many additional offerings on this topic. Stay tuned for further announcements at a future date.

This course combines classroom and range time in about equal parts.

The classroom portion will cover.

Safety, which is always job number one

How we as adults learn physical skills, and why dry fire and live fire are essential to progress, and how to use them effectively.

The physical demands of shooting, the part played by hydration, sleep, exercise, physical abilities, etc.

Physiological Considerations, the mindset and determination to prevail in a defensive encounter.

Firearms and Ammunition for Self-Defense: What are the facts that help determine what you need, and what are the specifics about selecting them?

Additional equipment, both necessary and facilitative

Gear selection, do’s and don’ts, avoid costly mistakes by procuring what you need and avoiding what you don’t.

Ideas and tools for home practice. Practice is key to proficiency, but it can be done at home in a spare five minutes as they are available.

The Range portion will cover

Proper placement of holsters, magazines, etc. Setting up your gear is critical to your success, and while we use only dominant hand carry in this class, follow-up will offer alternatives.

Drawing from the holster efficiently and safely. Your draw time and efficiency will greatly affect your first shot on target. We teach you this one-on-one and get you started with a great foundation on which to build. This is a critical step that you must take for success and the safety of everyone around you.

Firearm manipulation through the use of drills,. Our drills are designed to teach multiple skills simultaneously in order to teach in an orderly and progressive fashion, so that you are practicing the last skill learned by incorporating it into the current skill, and so forth through each addition. This begins the building of critical muscle memory and facilitates the delegation of rote functions to the subconscious. This frees you to address those things which are not predictive, rather than basic motor functions.

Reloading techniques. How to accomplish the various types of reloads, if and when they may be required. We will also discuss their overall importance, which might surprise you.

Malfunction clearing. Misfires, double feeds, hang fires, squibs, stovepipes, and their remediation to keep you shooting.

Sight acquisition and various new sight usage techniques. Red Dots will be demonstrated and explained in an easy-to-understand and easy-to-employ fashion. We will get you off to a great start regardless whether you choose a red dot or iron sights for use. We will explain the pros and cons of each as well thus helping you decide which fork in the road you will follow as your primary sighting technique.

Defensive accuracy, what it is, why it is what it is, and how to best achieve and practice it at home and on the range.

Trigger Discipline. When and how to place your finger on the trigger, and activating it so the gun fires with minimal disturbance to your sights.

Specific Drills will teach the above elements by building on them as we continue practicing those already covered earlier in the day. The net effect is that you will have done sufficient repetitions of each skill as you incorporate new ones into your toolkit. Any drill you do should be practicing the maximum number of skills for the round spent, and the dollars expended. Let us show you some you can take home and practice before you come back for level 2.

You will feel comfortable with the essential techniques and items as you strive to become a responsible “License to Carry Firearms” permit holder.

You will leave knowing “the secret” to proficiency with your firearm!

You will need the following for the course:

A semi-automatic firearm in a caliber suitable for self-defense, 30 Super Carry, or larger, no magnums. While we believe in 22 cal for learning and even practice, it is not generally considered a self-defense caliber. However, we also think that those with physical limitations deserve to exercise responsibility for their own defense if they choose. Just let us know about your limitation, and we will accommodate you and the use of .22 caliber firearms.

3 magazines for your pistol

A magazine pouch, belt-mounted

200 rounds of practice (ball, FMJ, etc.) ammunition

Holster, Outside Waist Band (OWB) strong side only, NO INSIDE WAIST BAND in this class, sorry, no Serpa holsters. Holster must be leather or Kydex and must completely cover the trigger. If you have no appropriate holster, contact me, and I’ll see if I have something in my holster box. (AT LEAST ONE WEEK BEFORE CLASS)

Chair, lunch, clothing appropriate to the weather, crew neck shirts, no open-toed shoes, sunblock, rain gear, and snacks are on you. Water will be supplied.

There will be no cover garment in this class; it will come in the next module, after we have perfected your drawing consistency.

Your Course fee of $100.00 must be paid upon registration. Cancellation within 7 days of the class will be credited to a future class fee. Prior to 7 days will be a full refund.

How frequently we do additional classes will depend on the response of our students, but once per quarter would be a good guess at this point.

If you are between the ages of 16 and 21, you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who must attend the class with you. Ask about a parent/child discount when you register online, and I’ll get back to you.

If you have any questions, you can contact us (and we’ll get back to you quickly. https://gemanuel.com/contact-us, or George@gemanuel.com

You will go home with a smile, and informational notes for your continued self-practice and education.

Before signing up, be aware that this course requires a working knowledge of your firearm and its manipulation. An NRA Basic Pistol Course or equivalent experience is strongly recommended. If you can not keep up SAFELY, you will be asked to leave for the safety of the class.
