The Five By Five By Five Drill

By George E Emanuel

This drill will pick up your pace quite a bit and rather quickly. Meet the standard for each

evolution before moving on to the next. Once you have fired the requisite number of rounds sucessfully

go to the next round count or move back a yard or two and repeat. A buddy to work the timer is a great help, and you can operate it while he shoots.

Any shot not within the circle completely is a miss and that ecolution must be repeated until satisfactorily completed.

Target Distance 5 yards

Time 5 Seconds

Target 5” circle

This is an excellent warm-up once you are proficient in shooting it.

Start with one shot in 5 seconds from the low-ready position (muzzle at the bottom of the target stand)

That was easy!

Next is two shots, low ready, five seconds

Then two shots, Low ready, five seconds

Getting more demanding? Isn’t it?

Next four shots. Low ready, five seconds

Finally, five shots, low ready, five seconds

Sounded so easy at the beginning.

This drill will sharpen your ability to get your sights on target and get them back as you recover from recoil.

You got it? OK, increase the round count to six, seven, etc.

Add the draw to increase the difficulty further, or move back to seven yards. Heck, why not work your way back to ten.

Modify the distance or the number of rounds, draw from a holster, or draw from concealment, but the five-inch circle remains a constant.

Good Luck!
